Pug Dogs
Pug dogs make wonderful pets and are one of the worlds most recognizable breeds with their round, flat and wrinkly faces. Categorized by the American Kennel Club as a toy breed, Pugs are one of the leading breeds in the toy class.
Pugs are actually one of the oldest dog breeds and are repud to have existed since 400 BC. They originated in China where they were the pets of Tibetan Monks and even had a place of honor in the Imperial Palace. Unlike many dogs of the time, Pugs were raised to be companions as opposed to guard dogs.
Pug dogs are most recognizable in a silver and black color but can come in apricot, fawn and solid black too. The have stocky muscular bodies, ears that fold over and a curtly tail that coils up over the hip.
Pugs have a unique personality and make great pets. Litters consist of 2 to 5 pups and the puppies are so tiny when born that they do require special care. Interestingly enough, a pug puppy will change color as it grows older.
Although small, pugs are an active breed and anyone thinking of adopting one should be prepared to take it for a walk every day. While they love to go for walks and run in the park, they do tire out easily so keep this in mind.
Pugs are very sensitive, so it is important that you use only positive reinforcement when training your Pug. Like with many small dog breeds, patience and persistence is key in obedience training and housebreaking.
Pug dogs are relatively easy to care for and make great pets. They do well in apartments or homes that do not have a big yard as long as you remember to walk them daily. They do have some health issues to look out for and you should be prepared to brush and groom your pug regularly – this includes trimming nails and brushing his teeth!
